Ice Hiking

It was a glorious day on Sunday- words cannot describe how glorious 40 degrees can feel after a week of negatives.  So, even though the sun wasn't shining, after church we headed over to Ledges for some winter hiking.  Neal and I had been there last winter and it was really cool how all the creeks froze over so we thought the kids would like it there.

The gates were closed for access to the roadway so you have to park and walk down to the creeks and limestone.  The boys had a great time throwing snowballs at signs and playing walrus in the snow.  Then we got down to the frozen creek.  Amazing!  The ice looks a little green- we think it is from the sandstone.  It was a little wet in some areas but luckily my boots are awesome.  Adam's boot unfortunately had huge holes in them.  But the kids still had a great time breaking through the ice and playing in the water and getting soaked and being outside and walking around.  It was wonderful.  I thought for sure there would be crying on the way back up to the car since everyone was soaked, but they didn't!  We turned the heater on in the car and stripped snow gear off and warmed up.
