Easter!

This year has been kinda crazy for me, so holidays haven't been as gung-ho as usual.  For instance, usually for Easter I make the boys Easter ties that match my new sweater or something so we all look cute.  This year I bought myself a dress because it's been like 5 years since I've bought one (probably more), bought Garett a new shirt, and told everyone else to wear something they already had.  Easter and family picture day are the only 2 times I get full disclosure to make my family wear what I want them to wear.  And that is a tradition I can always make time for ;)

Church is at 9 am this year, so we told the kids no baskets or eggs until after church.  We are the worst parents ever.  To be honest, the kids started having these grandiose ideas about what they were getting and I wanted to tone things down a bit.  We really did not need to be waking up at 4 am just to see what was in the Easter baskets.  I know people like going all out for their kids on holidays, but I think my kids get way too invested and excited so I'd like to keep things from getting all worked up about.

So after church and the obligatory picture off the kids went to collect their eggs.  We do colors for the kids so that they all get the same amount and there are no hurt feelings.

Someone can't wait to hunt for eggs

I'm a dinosaur.  Because those are so Easter-ish

Then the candy dump: (and a little silliness)

Our nails must match our outfits

Mr. Suess (although he is reading Meyer)

And after a little play time the Easter egg dying.  See top of post- I'm slackin' this year.

Call me old-fashion but we always just use food color and crayons to color our eggs.

It was a really warm day and we love taking walks in the woods as a family, so after I put the ham in the oven we headed down the street to our woods.  It would've been nice and cool, had the trees actually had their leaves.  Let's just say we didn't last long.  But we did find a camera hooked on a tree, so if you see footage from ISU talking about strange wildlife and you see Neal waving at the camera you'll know where that came from.

There is hope- a flower!

I really likes how much more laid back it was this year.  And we still got to make fun memories with the boys so absolutely nothing was missing in my eyes!
